Drepung Monastery (Details/Hidden)
- Drepung Monastery, situated at the foot of the Mountain Gambo Utse, 5 kilometers from the western suburb of Lhasa, is known as the most important monastery of Gelugpa in Tibetan Buddhism. It is considered one of the 'Three Great Monasteries'. Covering an area of 250,000 square meters, it held 7,700 monks in total and possessed 141 fazendas and 540 pastures in its heyday, and is the largest-scale monastery among the ones of the same kind. Seen from afar, its grand, white construction gives the monastery the appearance of a heap of rice. As such, it was given the name 'Drepung Monastery' which, in the Tibetan language, means Monastery of Collecting-Rice.

Sera Monastery (Details/Hidden)
- Sera Monastery, located at the foot of Tatipu Hill in the northern suburb of Lhasa City, is one of the three great Gelugpa monasteries along with the Drepung Monastery and the Ganden Monastery in Lhasa. It is dedicated to the Gelugpa or Yellow Hat Sect, a branch of Tibetan Buddhism, founded by Tsong Khapa. The monastery was named Sera which means wild rose in the Tibetan language, because the hill behind it was covered with wild roses in bloom when the monastery was built. It's here that the resident monks famously debate Buddhist doctrine in a highly stylized manor with ritualized clapping and stamping to designate starting and stopping points.

Lhasa Tibetan Hospital (Details/Hidden)
- Lhasa Tibetan Hospital is worldwide famous for its traditional treatment. Tibetan medicine is a centuries-old traditional medical system that employs a complex approach to diagnosis, incorporating techniques such as pulse analysis and urinalysis, and utilizes behavior and dietary modification, medicines composed of natural materials (e.g., herbs and minerals) and physical therapies (e.g. Tibetan acupuncture, moxabustion, etc.) to treat illness. The Tibetan medical system is based upon a synthesis of the Indian (Ayurveda), Persian (Unani), Greek, indigenous Tibetan, and Chinese medical systems, and it continues to be practiced in Tibet, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Ladakh, Siberia, China and Mongolia, as well as more recently in parts of Europe and North America. It embraces the traditional Buddhist belief that all illness ultimately results from the "three poisons" of the mind: ignorance, attachment and aversion. Like other systems of traditional Asian medicine, and in contrast to biomedicine, Tibetan medicine first puts forth a specific definition of health in its theoretical texts. To have good health, Tibetan medical theory states that it is necessary to maintain balance in the body's three principles of function.
