Today's full-day excursion will take you to the majestic Great Wall and the Ming Tombs and its Sacred Way. You will have your lunch at a specially selected local restaurant. Before you return to your hotel, you may take some pictures of the Bird's Nest and the Water Cube in Olympic Village. Feel a little tired after the full-day trip? Not to worry. Badaling Great Wall (Details/Hidden)

Badaling Great Wall was the earliest part of the great Wall opened to tourists. It has drawn tens of millions of tourists both from home and abroad. It is situated in Yanqing County, over 70 kilometres (43 miles) north of Beijing. It is the most well-preserved section of the Great Wall, built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). This section with an average altitude of over 1,000 meters (3,282 feet) is the outpost of the Juyongguan Pass. The mountain slope is very steep and the roads are tortuous. These features made it a military stronghold. Badaling Great Wall is like a strong dragon winding its way along the mountain ranges.

Ming Tombs (Details/Hidden)

Ming Tombs is not far from the Badaling Great wall, 50 kilometers northwest of Beijing, this is the burial area of 13 out of 16 emperors of the Ming Dynasty - the ruling dynasty of China from 1368 to 1644. Changling is the largest and best preserved of the 13 Ming Tombs and it is the tomb of the third Emperor. Changling has an underground burial chamber. Even though the underground palace of Changling remains a mystery to the world, it is still famous for its grandness and its exhibition hall with a lot of pieces of precious and irreplaceable treasure, like Phoenix crowns that were worn by the Emperor and Empress, and a golden crown. In a word, Changling is worth a visit.

In the front part of the imperial necropolises, there usually is a Sacred Way, which means the road leading to heaven. The Emperor, known as the Son of the Heaven, who came from Heaven to his country through the Sacred Way, also deservedly would return to Heaven through this road. The road is often lined with stone statues which are important decorations of the mausoleum. These statues are usually 12 human figures and 24 animals.

Bird`s Nest (Details/Hidden)

Bird's Nest (Beijing National Stadium) will host the main track and field competitions for the 2008 Summer Olympics, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies. It is located east of the Beijing National Aquatics Centre. The stadium can seat as many as 91,000 spectators during the Olympics. The capacity will then be reduced to 80,000 after the Games. The stadium cost up to 425 million USD.

Water Cube (Details/Hidden)

Water Cube (National Aquatics Center) the landmark building of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, is located inside the Beijing Olympic Green. Known as "Water Cube", it will be the venue for swimming, diving, synchronized swimming and water-polo final during the Olympic Games. The total seating capacity is 17,000, including 6,000 permanent and 11,000 temporary for Games which will be removed post-Games, then the "Water Cube" will become the venue for various activities such as aquatic sports, swimming, fitness and recreation.
