Mutianyu Great Wall (Details/Hidden)

Mutianyu Great Wall is one of Beijing's 16 new scenic spots. It starts from Juyong Pass on the west and reaches Gubeikou on the east. Battlements are seen on the 2,250-metre-long wall with three watching towers standing side by side. Mutianyu Great Wall snakes on the high mountains, whose vegetation coverage reaches over 90 percent. Besides its strategically important location and compact layout, it is also famous for the breathtaking scenery. Tourists will see blossoming flowers in spring, flowing streams in summer, red leaves in autumn and white snow in winter. Mutianyu is considered by Chinese and foreign tourists the best part of the Great Wall.

Ming Tombs (Details/Hidden)

Ming Tombs is not far from the Badaling Great wall, 50 kilometers northwest of Beijing, this is the burial area of 13 out of 16 emperors of the Ming Dynasty - the ruling dynasty of China from 1368 to 1644. Changling is the largest and best preserved of the 13 Ming Tombs and it is the tomb of the third Emperor. Changling has an underground burial chamber. Even though the underground palace of Changling remains a mystery to the world, it is still famous for its grandness and its exhibition hall with a lot of pieces of precious and irreplaceable treasure, like Phoenix crowns that were worn by the Emperor and Empress, and a golden crown. In a word, Changling is worth a visit.

In the front part of the imperial necropolises, there usually is a Sacred Way, which means the road leading to heaven. The Emperor, known as the Son of the Heaven, who came from Heaven to his country through the Sacred Way, also deservedly would return to Heaven through this road. The road is often lined with stone statues which are important decorations of the mausoleum. These statues are usually 12 human figures and 24 animals.

Olympic Village is also called Olympic Green for the Beijing Olympic Summer Games 2008 is energy-saving and environmentally friendly. Apartments in the Olympic Village have a total floor area of 370,000 square meters. All the apartments are permanent structures of similar architectural style, including 22 six-storey buildings and 20 nine-storey buildings. The residential area of the Olympic Village has a clinic, dining halls, a multi-functional library, an entertainment center and a recreational sports zone, as well as apartments for athletes. The recreational sports zone includes the Bird’s Nest, Water Cube, National Indoor Stadium, Olympic Green Convention Center, etc. The international area is the place where sports delegations hold welcoming ceremonies, receptions and other activities. The Olympic Village will be modified to become residential area in 2009.
