Shaanxi
Shaanxi Province is located in north-western China, and includes portions of the Loess Plateau on the middle reaches of the Yellow River as well as the Qingling Mountains across the southern part of the province. It borders on Shanxi, Henan, Hubei, Sichuan, Gansu, Ningxia, and Inner Mongolia provinces. Shaanxi is located within both the temperate and subtropical zones, and has clear monsoon climate features. Its northern part has a dry winter and spring, but a rainy summer and autumn, while its southern part enjoys a temperate humid climate, with abundant rainfall. The northern part of Shaanxi is loess plateau, the middle part is the Guanzhong plain, and the southern part is the Qin-Ba mountainous area.
Shaanxi is considered one of the cradles of Chinese civilization. Thirteen feudal dynasties established their capitals in the province during a span of more than 1,100 years, including the Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang Dynasty.
The province's principal city and current capital, Xi`an, is one of the four great ancient capitals of China and is the eastern terminus of the Silk Road, which lead to Europe, Arabia and Africa. Under the Han Dynasty, the Northern Silk Road was expanded to advance exploration and military purposes to the west. It connected the ancient Chinese capital of Xi'an to the west over the Wushao Ling Pass to Wuwei and emerging in Kashgar before linking to ancient Parthia. Resources of Cultural Interests Historical and cultural resources in Shaanxi have blossomed in its radiant splendor, of which, resources of cultural interests take up about 94%, occupying a dominant position in the tourism in the province. Shaanxi is opening up a unique eco-tourism to the world. |
