The city of Anshun, located to the east of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and along the Guiyang-Kunming Railway, has become the center of tourism for the middle western part of Guizhou. Early in the Warring States Period (403-221BC), this area was the state of Yelang Kingdom and became Anshun Prefecture in the Ming Dynasty. In 1958, a municipality government was set up there.
Anshun is an old established trading center going back to he 13th century and linking north and south China with areas as remote as Burma, via Kunming. Anshun is rich in tea. Its traditional craft of was printing with a history of more than 2,000 years. The industrial base today had greatly expanded due to rich coal reserves that have provided an excellent energy source. Heavy machinery, aeroplanes, food proceedding, distilling and the leather industry are particularly important. Aeroplane manufacture was the direct result of Mao Zedong's decentralization of industry policy. An important industrial defence complex is located in the Anshun area. Anshun is praised for its excellent cuisine.
It`s the central city along the west tourist route of Guizhou tours. Anshun is situated directly on the route between Qian (Guizhou) and Dian (Yunnan), it has been the logistics center for commercial goods since ancient times. Due to its important strategic position, it is also nicknamed 'the Belly of Qian, the Throat of Dian, the Lips and Teeth of Shu (Sichuan) and Yue (Guangdong)'.
There are one district (Xixiu District), two counties (Pingba County, Puding County), and three autonomous counties (Guanling Buyi Minority and Miao Minority Autonomous County, Zhenning Buyi and Miao Minority Autonomous County, and Ziyun Miao Minority and Buyi Minority Autonomous County) under Anshun City's governance.
Anshun is also a cultural melting pot with contributions from the Miao, Buyi and Gelao minority groups. These citizens of Anshun are proud of the diverse mix of cultures which may be seen in: architecture styles - Folk House of Guizhou Tunbao; festivals - Tiaohua Festival, Baishu Festival, Ox King Festival, Changxin Festival; ethnic arts & crafts - brocade, wax printing, kitchen knife, embroidery; finery and decorations; and their special local foods and snacks- crystal bean jelly, glutinous rice cake, Zhenning Bobo Candy. The Living Fossil of Drama - Di Opera at Anshun is another "must-see" for visitors to Guizhou province.
Many beautiful mountains and rivers decorate this mysterious area. Three national scenic and historic interest areas are located here including: Huangguoshu Waterfall National Park, Dragon Palace, the Getu River Scenic Area, Zhijing Cave, the Hundred-Li Azalea Belt and Maling River, etc. Anshun City also hosts one national forest park, Jiulongshan Forest Park, as well as a number of province-level and city-level scenic spots. The spectacular scenery of this area is most often associated with the typical Karst type of topography. In addition to the scenery, there are many notable historic places of interest that leave an everlasting mark on visitors including: Puding Chuandong Human Fossil Site renowned as 'Asian Lamp of Civilization', the 'Red Cliff Relics' - one of the eight mysterious writings in China - a book from Heaven, Anshun Wenmiao Temple - renowned for stone-carving building complex, the cliffside inscriptions, ancient rock art, and ancient tombs....
